Welcome to your new Trezor hardware wallet! This guide will walk you through the setup process to ensure your device is secure and ready to use. Follow these steps carefully to protect your cryptocurrencies.
Before starting, ensure you have:
A Trezor hardware wallet (Model T or One)
A USB cable (for Trezor One) or USB-C cable (for Trezor Model T)
A computer or mobile device with internet access
The official Trezor website (trezor.io/start) open
Avoid purchasing from third-party sellers to prevent tampering.
Plug your Trezor into your computer using the provided USB cable.
For Trezor Model T, use the touchscreen to navigate.
For Trezor One, use the physical buttons.
Trezor Suite is the official software to manage your device.
Visit trezor.io/start and download Trezor Suite for your OS (Windows, macOS, Linux).
Install the application and open it.
Choose "Create new wallet" in Trezor Suite.
Select "Standard seed backup" (12, 18, or 24 words).
Your device will generate a recovery seed—write it down manually on the provided card.
⚠️ Important:
Never store your seed digitally (no photos, cloud storage, or emails).
Keep it offline and secure.
Anyone with your seed can access your funds.
Trezor will ask you to verify the seed by selecting words in the correct order.
This ensures you’ve written it correctly.
A PIN adds an extra layer of security.
Choose a 4-9 digit PIN and confirm it.
If you enter the wrong PIN multiple times, the device will wipe itself.
You can personalize your Trezor with a name (e.g., "My Crypto Vault").
If prompted, update your firmware for the latest security features.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Open Trezor Suite and navigate to the "Assets" tab.
Click "Add Account" and select the cryptocurrencies you want to manage.
Your Trezor will generate unique addresses for each coin.
Go to the "Receive" tab in Trezor Suite.
Select the cryptocurrency.
Verify the address on your Trezor screen before sending funds.
Go to the "Send" tab.
Enter the recipient’s address and amount.
Confirm the transaction on your Trezor device.
Adds a 25th word to your recovery seed for extra security.
Enable via Trezor Suite > Settings > Security > Passphrase.
Splits your recovery seed into multiple shares for enhanced security.
If you lose your Trezor:
Get a new Trezor device.
Select "Recover wallet" in Trezor Suite.
Enter your recovery seed in the correct order.
Never share your recovery seed or PIN.
Only use official Trezor websites (avoid phishing sites).
Enable firmware updates for the latest security patches.
Use a strong passphrase for sensitive funds.
Try a different USB port/cable.
Restart Trezor Suite.
Check Trezor’s support page for help.
Wipe the device and restore using your recovery seed.
